ROOTS, founded by Juhanna Rogers and Victoria Coit, hosts events that educate, entertain, and celebrate the interests of young professionals.
Juhanna Rogers is a Scholar-Artist and a Community Builder who creates events and experiences that educate and engage people of color in education and the community. Ms. Rogers is originally from Newark, NJ, but has lived in Indiana, Spain, England, and Costa Rica while pursuing her graduate education. Juhanna’s views on building an inclusive community is shaped by her experience living in various cities, nationally and abroad. Juhanna’s academic pursuits and global experience led her into being part of the Indiana University history in 2016. Juhanna and seven of her colleagues were deemed “The Great 8” after being recognized as the largest number of Black women to complete doctorate degree requirements simultaneously. The Great 8 were selected as Ebony Magazine Power 100 Honorees for being change makers in education. Locally, Juhanna worked at Syracuse Community Connections under the leadership of Sharon Owens as Director of Health Services for three years. Currently, Juhanna is the Director of Performance for the Economic Inclusion Division at Center State CEO. Juhanna has found a professional home in Syracuse and she is answering a call to create spaces for young professionals to live and thrive.
Victoria Coit is a Culture Builder, Writer, and Visionary who sees pure potential in the City of Syracuse and the Central New York Region. Enhancing a robust culture for communities of color is a passion, and assignment from a young age. Ms. Coit was born in Loma Linda, California and grew up in Central New York, after living in Washington, DC for most of her twenties she chose to return to the City of Syracuse driven to make an impact. As a Community Organizer for SEIU 1199 / Healthcare Education Project, she has utilized her seasoned skills of gathering the community around issues that directly impact them the most. As she continues to effectively, organize her passions have lead to Entrepreneurship. Victoria is the Founder and Editor & Chief of Cuse Culture Magazine and Media Group. Cuse Culture is a publication and movement that serves minority millennials throughout Central New York: connecting them to people with shared experiences, unifying them within their own culture, and improving their quality of life. Cuse Culture Media Group is a full service PR Firm that assists businesses in the public and private sector reach niche markets in the CNY region.
